Cornerstones of the Library of Alexandria

The Cornerstone of the Library of Alexandria were the cornerstone to the original Library. If all four are brought together and activated it will make the Library come into our dimension and cause it to implode on itself due to its immense size. Three of the cornerstones were hidden 100 years ago by Nicole Noone in order to keep them safe.

Along with a map, Nicole devised a mnemonic device that allowed her to remember where she hid the three stones — each stone is connected to a muse:

  • The first stone was associated to Melete (the Muse of Thought). She was symbolized by water, so the stone was thus hidden in Annie Edson Taylor's barrel at Niagara Falls.
  • The stone associated with Aoide (the Muse of Song) was found at Le Palais Garnier, aka the Paris Opera House, by singing to it.
  • Mneme (the Muse of Memory) was born of lighting. Nicole, therein, hid the third stone at Lake Maracaibo in Venezuela, which is the lightning hotspot of the world.

The cornerstones were discovered by the Order of the Shadows that used them to try and destroy the Library. Their plan failed when Nicole destroyed one of the cornerstones, making the other three useless. The remaining three cornerstones were then brought back to the library.

After Flynn alters time using the Toaster of Albuquerque, he asks about the Cornerstones and is told by Cassandra that they are "in the Library, where they've always been," causing Flynn to realize that Nicole succeeded in rewriting history.
