The Jötunn, commonly known as the Frost Giants, are not gods, although they were once worshiped as gods, and when their era of worship came to an end, they lost most of their power. As a result, they would fight each other for the Angrboda Crystal and then drain it of its magic, giving them a temporary power boost. Then, they would wait another 600 years for the crystal to recharge. It is is implied that the crytal is also the reason for the Frost Giants immortality or at least longevity.
